Why not ride a horse?
So, my wife's birthday was on the horizon. And, with all of her birthdays, I couldn't just take this one in stride. That is, her birthday means a lot to me and I have a tendency to go a little overboard at times. For me, just like my childrens' birthdays, the birth of someone so important to you just shouldn't be taken for granted. I've learned a lot over the past few years about this beautiful person, the love of my life, and I'm always intrigued about her upbringing and the experiences that contributed in creating this wonderful person in front of me.
As of late, the topic of horseback riding had come up in our conversations. She described to me the joy she remembered in riding, and how long it had been since she had that experience. She grew up riding horses during summer camp, and it was always a wonderful happy memory. I know for myself the joy found in reconnecting with a childhood memory, or moment. For me, it was shooting hoops on a baseball court, or putting my high school field hockey stick in my hand and hitting the ball with my daughter, who is playing now herself.
I decided... she was GOING to ride a horse. I'd recently met Katie from Autumn Grove Stables in Berlin, MD and she was kind enough to set up a birthday surprise for us. The morning of Nicole's day, it was a rainy downpour. I'd worried that things would be dampened. Yet, Katie had an amazing indoor arena for riding that saved the day! I can't even describe the joy and childlike happiness reflected in my wife Nicole's face when we walked inside, but the pictures speak for themselves. Happy Birthday to my beautiful wife Nicole, and thanks again to Autumn Grove Stables for helping me out! If you're looking for some childlike wonder, why not ride a horse?
